Last night Zach's high fevers returned. Also his lung secretions are increasing which means that they have changed his vent to increase positive pressure which keeps the alveolar open. Today they are working with a combination of drugs to help sedate him properly without dropping his blood pressure. Also Zach has been transferred to a air pressure bed that rotates him every 30 min from side to side to help prevent pressure sores. He is extremely agitated by this movement and is working diligently to remove his breathing tube at times. They have also started nasogastric tube feedings. He is stable now but any changes to meds or vent just send him spiraling downward. They are trying to wean him off the propofol because of the toxic effects on the liver. It is so hard on him and everyone else too. They have a newer medication I don't know the name but it is supposed to help keep him in a deep sleep but that he may wake on arousal. So that is about it for now...his night nurse is fabulous and has him tucked in for the rest of tonight.
